The twins have used it for years to explore the castle and find secret passages. They bequeath it to Harry, saying he needs it more. The First Use Harry uses the map to locate the secret passage leading to Honeydukes. He taps the one-eyed witch statue and says 'Dissendium,' then slides down into the tunnel. Snape confiscates the map

The Danger Caught by Snape On a later Hogsmeade trip, Harry is caught by Snape after Malfoy sees his head floating under the Invisibility Cloak. Snape forces Harry to empty his pockets and finds the Marauder's Map. He tries to open it, but the map insults him with messages from the Marauders, enraging Snape. Lupin's Intervention Snape calls Lupin, who arrives and takes the map. Lupin, realizing it is the original Marauder's Map, pretends it is a harmless Zonko product. He later returns it to Harry, but warns him not to use it irresponsibly. Harry is relieved that Lupin did not reveal the map's true nature to Snape. The Aftermath Harry learns that Lupin is actually Moony, one of the map's creators. This deepens the connection between Harry and his father's friends.
